Notes from our 4/25 Field Session and More

Dear Students,

Thank you to those who were able to make it out to Beaver Meadow on Saturday. I enjoyed our time in the field, and I hope you did, too.

For those who could not make it, click here to see a copy of my prep notes.  I suggest getting in touch with someone who was there to get an idea of what we covered at Beaver Meadow.

Class this Wednesday (April 29) will begin with a debate on nuclear power, followed by the final exam. Those who are exempt from the final will be dismissed after the debate.

Finally, keep in mind that Exercise #2 is due at the beginning of our final class - May 6th.

Please let me know if you have any questions,
Bill

Final Exam Info.

Dear students,

At Wednesday night's class, I briefly went over what will be covered on the final. I wanted to post the info here just in case anyone was unclear on what to study:

The final will cover the following:
 1. Questions from the midterm
 2. Questions from the quizzes since the midterm
 3. Material from class on 4/22
 4. The field trip - I will post notes on Sunday. I would recommend getting notes from someone who is going on the trip.
 5. Chapters 23-24 in the text (use the testing your comprehension questions at the end of the chapter to guide your reading. Any questions on the final from these chapters will come from the concepts covered by these questions).

Please contact me with any questions,
Bill

Study Materials

Dear Students,

As you requested here is a link to the PowerPoint from our last class. Also, a few students have asked if they could have access to the midterm to help them study for the final. Here is a copy.

Finally, here is a link to the video I showed at the end of our last class. Remember, for 5 points of extra credit, you can submit a short written piece about how you would have responded to Ann McElhinney.

Have a great weekend,
Bill

Materials From Class on March 11th

Dear Students,

During the second half of class on the 11th, the class worked through three learning stations, answering the questions on this paper

Station #1 - Video on Conservation Biology and Restoration Ecology.
Station #2 - Article: Bolder Thinking for Conservation
Station #3 - Short article summaries on studies of biodiversity and ecosystem services

Following the stations, I gave a lecture on biodiversity and forest management. You can view my notes via this link. I will conclude the lecture next week by talking about conservation biology.

Have a safe and restful break,
Bill
